Jean-Philippe studied literature, dance and drama. From the very beginning of his career he was equally interested in both young and adult audiences as a performer in theatre and dance, as a director and as an author. He expanded his activities to include other disciplines, directing equestrian shows and teaching at the École de cirque de Québec.
Jean-Philippe Joubert is one of the founding members of Nuages en pantalon and is also responsible for its artistic direction. The company's artistic path is intertwined with his own as he directs every show, creates lighting designs and video concepts, as well as performs in several of the productions.
For a number of years now, Jean-Philippe Joubert has directed repertory pieces for the two main theatre companies in Quebec City, the Théâtre du Trident and the Théâtre de la Bordée. Among the productions that he has directed are Les Muses orphelines (Michel Marc Bouchard), Charbonneau et le chef (John Thomas McDonough), L'École des femmes (Molière), La Nuit des rois (Shakespeare), Britannicus (Racine), Mois d’août, Osage County (Tracy Letts), Bousille et les justes (Gratien Gélinas) and Roméo et Juliette (Shakespeare).
